Dawn Richard became a household name in 2005, when she became part of Diddy’s third band project, Danity Kane. And although the group road a wave of success, they disbanded in 2009. Richard then started writing for artists like Cassie and then joined Diddy-Dirty Money -- another Diddy brainchild.

After both stints, the songstress has stepped out on her own with her debut solo album, ‘GoldenHeart.’ And despite any critics that dogged her for her time as a girl-group member, her first solo effort soared to the top spot on the iTunes R&B album charts -- that's big bucks for her considering she's an independent artist.

Not only do fans love her new work, critics are also praising her artistry, even claiming that ‘GoldenHeart’ could be a strong contender for the best album of 2013.
